Sherman D. Roberts is currently an Associate Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Saїd Business School. At Saїd, Roberts serves as Academic Director of the Oxford Programme on Negotiation (2003-Present). He also served as Academic Director of the Oxford Programme on Investment Decisions.
In addition he is President and Faculty Chair of The Ivy Faculty Consortium (1999-Present), a network of experts on leadership and organizational topics, who are professors at some of the best universities, business schools, and schools of public service across the United States and in the U.K.
From 1996 through 2002 Roberts was Director of Executive Seminars at Harvard University’s Kennedy School, where he designed, organized and taught in executive programs on leadership and organizational performance, including Managing People for Maximum Performance, Promoting Innovation and Organizational Change, Effective Decision Making, and Strategies for Enhancing Executive Influence.
In addition to Oxford and Harvard, Roberts has also taught at Texas A&M University, Reykjavik University (Iceland), and Andres Bello Catholic University and Simon Bolivar University (both in Caracas, Venezuela).
Roberts has designed and taught executive education and leadership development programs for many client organizations including: Sharp Electronics, USA, Johnson and Johnson, Ferro Corporation, Cairn Energy of India, J.C. Penney Company, Inc., Federal Bureau of Investigation (US Dept of Justice), Oppenhiemer Capital, Prudential Investments, Roche Laboratories, Technology Partners International and the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), among many others.
Roberts academic career began as a researcher at the Center for Future Studies at the Andres Bello Catholic University in Caracas (1972-1977). He also worked at BANAP, the Venezuelan national savings bank (1977-1979), and Banco Provincial, part of Crédit Lyonnais (1979-1980). In 1980, he accepted a position as Professor of Behavioral Science and later became Head of Behavioral Technology, Coordinator of Teacher’s Education in the Open University Program for Physics and Mathematics, and a member of a University Extension Team for Industry. In 1989 he went as a Visiting Researcher to the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies in Cambridge, Massachusetts and later became its Deputy Director (1990-1996).
Roberts holds advanced degrees in political science and psychology, having studied at Texas A&M University, Simón Bolívar University, and Harvard University’s Psychology Department. While doing postgraduate studies at Harvard he collaborated on several projects with eminent behavioral psychologist B.F. Skinner. Roberts’ current research focuses on scientific principles of human behavior that can be applied in improving the performance of leaders, employees, teams, and organizations.
